Day 3 – Colorado River Alliance
The Texas Colorado River snakes through nearly the entire state – a beautiful lifeline that snakes nearly through the entirety of Austin. The health of this river affects Austin and its lakes – both Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan are at about 34% capacity. Even in the midst of December, it’s not uncommon to see boats out on Lake Austin – and that’s not even mentioning the flocks of wild coots, turtles, and fish that call these bodies of water home. As the only non-profit dedicated to preserving and the protecting the Texas Colorado River, the Colorado River Alliance offers a host of informative programs on preservation, and encourages the community to get involved.
